Reds backed to be in the top four
Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam believes Jurgen Klopp's side will be in the top four at the end of the season.
The Reds are currently well off pace after a campaign of stoppages, although they have shown their ability to break into European venues later in 2020/21.
In the opinion that Liverpool will qualify for the Champions League once again in the coming months, said Adamsport grosvenor:
I have no doubt that Liverpool will be in the top four at the end of the season. They are bringing back key players and have undeniable quality in their squad. I can see Liverpool winning seven or eight, maybe even nine games in a row once the team is back to full form."
Former Liverpool striker Andy Carroll missed a chance to score against Manchester United tonight.
Instead, his night at Old Trafford ended early after picking up a second yellow card in the second half.
Their Reading team-mates are 3-1 down with just under ten minutes to go.
Formation of Mohamed Salah
Mark Lawrenson believes that Mohamed Salah's poor form is explained by the number of forced changes made by Jurgen Klopp in recent weeks.
Not being able to count on names like Diogo Jota or Luis Díaz due to injury, the reds had to find other solutions to the lack of power in the last third.
Salah has struggled to meet his usual high standards in recent weeks, scoring once in his last six appearances for the club.
Sharing his thoughts on the fall of the Egyptians, Lawrenson saidtalk sport:: “It is unusual for him. I think one of the problems is that he plays with different strikers every week and in different formations. The thing about him is that he needs to be happy to play and you can see it in his face.
"It's a bit like, 'What's going on here?' Consequently, with them not playing very well, I didn't have much serve. You don't suddenly become a bad player."
“People think it's because he signed a new contract and that kind of thing. It has nothing to do with it. It is that he has not been playing well and, consequently, he has not had many opportunities ”.
Jarell Quansah, on loan from Liverpool, had an afternoon to forget on his debut for Bristol Rovers this afternoon.
The League One side, managed by Joey Barton, recently secured the services of the Reds' Academy prospect for the remainder of the current campaign as they look to climb the Division Three table.
A trip to struggling Morecambe represented a fitting venue to kick-start his loan spell, although the Shrimps scored five goals against Rovers in what can only be described as a shock score.
The Carragher Celebrations
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher celebrates his 45th birthday today.
Ranking second on the all-time appearance list for the club, Carragher represented the Reds 737 times in the starting line-up, a tally surpassed only by Ian Callaghan (857).
During his time at the club, the practical defender won the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup twice, the League Cup three times, as well as the UEFA Cup, UEFA Super Cup (X2) and Community Shield. (X2).
Are the four main hopes over?
Mark Lawrenson has given up hope when it comes to Liverpool finishing in the top four. Speaking ofweekend sports breakfast: "I just don't see it," Lawro said of his old club's top four prospects.
“It is pure incoherence. Virgil van Dijk is also out. It was said two months ago that if you come to Liverpool you create chances.
“That's what all the teams have been doing lately when they play them: they don't just sit, they think about trying. They don't have great legs in midfield and they lack experience.
“They've been going through that change quite a bit. They have not become a bad team and the coach is not a bad coach, he is excellent.
"He already said it, it's one of those things where summer arrives and the revolving door opens: people are going to leave and people are going to enter."
a debut is coming
Jarell Quansah has been named in Bristol Rovers' starting XI, ready to face Morecambe away from home.
The 19-year-old has just been signed by Joey Barton and is looking to make an impact in senior football.
Caicedo do Liverpool odds
Liverpool are currently priced at 40/1 to add Moises Caicedo to their squad before the January window closes, according toBetfair.
Brighton have told Caicedo to stay away until the window closes after he posted on social media last night what appeared to be a farewell message after Arsenal had a £60m offer turned down.
On this day nine years ago!
I can't believe this match was nine years ago, time flies! Liverpool beat Everton 4-0 in the Merseyside derby in fantastic fashion, Steven Gerrard opening the scoring with a header from a corner.
Daniel Sturridge scored twice and Luis Suárez added a superb individual shot.
Klopp happy with Gakpo
Jurgen Klopp praised the defensive skills of new signing Cody Gakpo. The Dutch star has yet to score for Liverpool, but the Reds manager insists he is "completely happy".
“His defense is excellent. That central position is really what we need... Everybody, he's on a long-term contract here, he's going to see this. So I'm completely happy."
Do you agree?
Do you agree with Gabriel Agbonlahor that Curtis Jones is not good enough for Liverpool? The former Aston Villa striker told the Mirror: "He's not good enough for me, where he wants Liverpool to go."
Jones has struggled to consolidate a place in Liverpool's midfield and has struggled with injury this season. Could he play tomorrow in the FA Cup tie in Brighton?
Darwin Núñez will improve
Former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam believes striker Darwin Nunez will "get better" once he establishes himself.
adam saidsport grosvenor: "I don't see any resemblance between Andy Carroll and Darwin Núñez. They are totally different players.
"Usually foreign players take six months to adjust and Darwin could take a year, but I think he will be a better player next season [than he was when he joined Liverpool].
"I have no doubt that Jurgen Klopp is happy with what Nunez is bringing to the table. He signed for a lot of money and it's natural for him to feel pressure if he misses opportunities."
Cody Gakpo wants more trophies
New Liverpool signing Cody Gakpo is looking to add more trophies to his collection, as he told theLiverpoolfc.com: “I myself won some [trophies] in the Netherlands,” he added. “That's what you train for all your life, to win games and win prizes. I think everyone here is looking forward to winning again and that's what I feel in the group.
Gakpo could find himself in Liverpool's starting XI against Brighton in the FA Cup fourth round lunchtime tomorrow.
Athletic's David Ornstein reports that Moises Caicedo will sit out tomorrow's FA Cup match in Brighton against Liverpool after wanting a move.
Brighton have told Caicedo to stay away from the club until the transfer window closes on February 1, and then he is expected to return to the team for the second part of the season.
Moises Caicedo Update
This story is updated all the time as Moises Caicedo has missed Brighton training today and is looking to force a play. Chelsea saw a £55 million offer turned down, while Arsenal's £60 million offer was also turned down.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the midfielder could miss the match against Liverpool in the FA Cup tomorrow at noon.
Jurgen Klopp confirmed in his press conference yesterday that Fabio Carvalho will not be involved in the FA Cup clash at Brighton on Sunday due to a minor injury problem.
The former Fulham player has struggled with playing time of late and now faces more time away from the squad.
Prepare new tender
Arsenal are preparing to offer a new offer in the region of £65m for Moisés Caicedo, according toPete O´Rourke, after his social media post confirmed his intention to leave Brighton.
Caicedo has been the focus of speculation all month with the Liverpool link up, but Chelsea saw a £55m offer turned down before Arsenal's £60m offer was also turned down.
Will interest from Chelsea and Arsenal get Liverpool into action? With a little luck.
Moises Caicedo sends shock waves
The news yesterday was that Arsenal had offered £60m for Moises Caicedo after Brighton had already turned down a £55m offer from Chelsea.
Last night, Caicedo took to his social media accounts to post what appeared to be a farewell message from Brighton as he looks to take the next step in his career.
The Seagulls won't like Caicedo trying to force a change and they may lose to Liverpool in the FA Cup on Sunday as a result.
Nobody likes Liverpool
Times have changed a lot for Liverpool and they will go into the game in Brighton tomorrow as the underdog with pundits and fans expecting the Seagulls to come out victorious and quite easily too.
Brighton completely outclassed the Reds a few weeks ago to win 3-0. Former Red Stan Collymore expects a similar result on Sunday.
Dortmund plans talks
Borussia Dortmund are planning talks to extend Jude Bellingham's contract as they look to make him the highest-paid player in their history while trying to avoid interest.
Liverpool, Real Madrid and Man City all have their eyes on the 19-year-old and a battle is expected to take place in the summer.
writing tocaught out of the game, Christian Falk reported: “Dortmund still have a small hope that Jude Bellingham can stay: they want to make a new offer for him where he would become the highest earning club at the club with €15 million. They are planning talks in March now.
"His family is thinking about the future and they are very aware that the next step has to be taken in the summer because it can't be much better for Bellingham in the Bundesliga."
FA Cup action
It's FA Cup weekend and the action kicked off last night with Man City taking on Premier League leaders Arsenal at the Etihad. Mikel Arteta made six changes to his squad as they were beaten 1-0 by a stronger City side.
Liverpool will be in action in Round 4 at lunchtime on Sunday when they travel to the south coast to battle Brighton for the second time in weeks.
The Reds will be looking for a big improvement on the 3-0 loss they faced last time out.
